Act water police attempt to rescue kangaroo from floodwaters

An animal rescue team in the Perth suburbs of Cottesloe and 바카라 Maroochydore have been inundated with calls after a massive flood water main burst.

Kangaroo rescuers found two dead kangaroos in the flooding waters of a creek near the town's main water reservoir.

It is the first confirmed fatality in the area, with one kangaroo recovered from the flooded creek, while four others were recovered by members of the rescue team.

Catherine D'Onofrio from Perth Zoo said she and other members of her rescue team were "deeply shocked and devastated" when they learned of the deaths.

"These animals saved countless lives and all the time we are overwhelmed that they survived," Ms D'Onofrio said.

"This is quite a tragedy and we are shocked and devastated by it."

She said rescuers were now assessing the situation and hoping to resume operations shortly.

"They are trying to assess the situation and we certainly support them in that they will be moving to the footings in time for the rescue of the next group."

An aerial camera on Friday afternoon captured the black and white marsupial clinging to the water as it sat atop a tree near Lake Ondo in Maroochydore.

A volunteer diver later found two bodies - one of which was reportedly kangaroo - and confirmed the deaths of two adult males and the female.

Police on Friday evening arrested one man in Cottesloe, with police appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They released CCTV footage of the man and 바카라 two female friends from an adjoining property after he and the woman, who was not identified, 바카라 admitted stealing the kangaroos' meat in Cottesloe earlier this month.
