One thing that we don't Nutri Sleep consider is that the spike we get from caffeine only lasts for usually 30 to 90 minutes and when it wears off, we go grab another cup of joe! The more caffeine we drink, the less effect the caffeine seems to have and so we put shot after shot in the coffee.I used to drink a lot of coffee but I experienced a positive effect when I reduced my coffee intake to around 1 cup a day and started drinking more water.Make sure that you don't eat anything substantial within about 3 hours of your bedtime because of the time that it takes for your body to digest the food. If you eat right before you go to bed, your body will be attempting to process your food and interfering with the ability to fall asleep.Make sure to eat throughout the day so that you don't get too hungry and are tempted to eat right before bed. I do this sometimes and then I don't eat before bed and then I can't fall asleep because of hunger!Sleep disorders are common in our society. They affect our daily functioning, our job and academic performance. They can result in accidents on the road or at work. Relationships can be severely affected with our sleep partner if it is not treated early. Sleeping problems can also lead to or worsen the underlying medical and psychiatric conditions. The common sleep problems are insomnia, sleep apnea, snoring, daytime sleepiness, sleep walking and limb movement disorder. Treatments can include life style changes, behavioral changes, medication, therapies, surgical and mechanical treatments. The following paragraphs will provide some information on each of these treatments.Life Style Change - This includes your diet, activities, sleep wake routine, work, leisure and relationships. Do you smoke? Do you drink more than 6 cups of coffee or tea a day? Are you under stress at work or at home? Do you exercise less than twice a week? Are you dissatisfied, bored? Do you generally work more than 10 hours a day? If your answers to any of these questions is YES, it indicates that your life style may be affecting your sleep. It is time to look at your priority in life and find way to work around the stress and bad habits that are affecting your sleep.Behavioural techniques - This method is useful to treat insomnia. It includes sleep hygiene, relaxation exercises, cognitive focusing, sleep restriction therapy and systematic desensitization. The last three techniques are used to reduce recurrent and persistent thoughts during sleep. They involve focusing on pleasant thoughts, changes to sleep pattern and reducing anxiety related to negative thoughts while sleeping.
