In essence, fewer calories and fat should be burned each day than consumed. One thing to watch out for is crash diets. They usually involve losing an unhealthy amount of weight in a very short amount of time. One such diet is the starvation diet which not only doesn't work but can wreck havoc on the body over time. What usually happens is that the body is deprived on vital nutrients it needs to function properly so the body stores fat as reserves because it doesn't know when the next meal will come.
