Being so close to summer, the top of many people's priorities Arm Up System is to get into shape for the beach. For most, that involves getting a 6 pack or 'washboard stomach'. If it was that simple wouldn't everyone have a 6 pack? A common misconception about getting that 6 pack is that you must spend all your time doing sit ups, crunchies and other abdominal workouts. This is NOT true. You cannot underestimate the importance of your usual strength training workouts when it comes to getting six pact abs. What many don't realise is the fact that when lifting heavy weights during your squats, dead lifts, bench press and lunges, you are actually using your abdominal muscles. A lot of the stability you need for such activities comes from the abs, if they were not working, the likelihood of sustaining and injury would be very high. During strength training the abdominal muscles are going to be called on, it is extremely important that you ensure proper form is being utilized. Another major factor in developing toned 6 pack abs is going to be getting your body fat levels low. This is key in allowing your abs to show. You can develop your abs but if they are covered by a layer of fat, no one will be able to see them. You need to be looking to get body fat levels into single figures. Weight training is not only important in developing the abdominal muscles, it is also one of the best ways to boost your metabolic rate, this will help your body burn off fat and reach the body fat levels needed for your abs to show through. Keep in mind that some weight lifting exercises are better than others for boosting your metabolic rate. A heavy set of squats, for example, will be a lot more beneficial than a set of bicep curls. To put this principle into practice, try to program your weight lifting routine so that only core, compound lifts are included. Movements such as: lunges, dead lifts, shoulder presses, bench presses, squats and bent over rows. This will result in two things; provide you with a much better, whole body workout, and help you achieve those toned 6 pack abs you desire. An important thing to keep in mind is that toned abs and strong abs can be two very different things. Repeatedly doing weighted ab work may make your abdominal muscles grow larger. This might sound obvious, but this can give you the appearance of a wider waist. If your body fat levels are not low, coupled with your larger abs you can end up looking bigger in the middle, rather than defined.
